“Dor”

Hi all! ^_^

I’ve been really, really busy lately and between projects, moving from one country to another and trying to make a living, I’ve managed to squeeze in some more work. Those of you who follow me on Facebook  are more up to date with my activity as I update that space more often 😀 Please do join me on my facebook page and take part in my future little contests which I’ll be organizing there … The result of one such contest is the illustration bellow. I’ve asked my followers to suggest me their own ideas to draw or to take the chance and request a free commission if they wanted any, and then the winning idea was illustrated in a full color illustration. I’ve also kept everyone updated with the process I’ve gone through to produce the image. I’ve posted some of the steps as well.

The winning idea was to illustrate the connection between mother and child and the concept of “dor” – a Romanian word which doesn’t have a translation in any other language and it encompasses the feelings of longing, missing, yearning, ardent desire, grief, sorrow, nostalgia and melancholy in relation with either another person, a place, an event, an experience etc.

Hope you like it!

“Before/after” illustrations and another WIP

Hello everyone! Like I promised a few posts ago, I present to you another W.I.P. steps of an illustration 🙂 I remembered to save the steps halfway through the painting process so I apologize for the lack of more explicit information on the most important stages (such as the jumping from the doodle to the half finished thing ). I promise to have better ones in the future! 😀

I painted this illustration a few weeks ago when I was planning to redo all the illustrations in my graphic novel A Story of Hope for the Bullied, as I want to try and get it published in the future. But after I got a few trusted people told me it’s better to leave them as they were I decided to take it to Internet to hear the voice of the people.

which one

Both on Facebook and Deviantart, the people of Internet cast their votes and the score was tight. In the end, not only did they convinced me that my “before” illustrations looked a lot better, but also got me thinking that my painting style might not actually be progressing in the right direction :-?. If you have a spare moment and wouldn’t mind casting your own vote,  I would love to hear what your impressions are on my two stylistic approaches.

Thanks for reading! If you have any questions regarding my WIP steps or the “before/after” illustrations please head over to my Facebook page and ask to your hearts content. I shall be happy to answer ^_^

See you soon! 😉

So much to learn from history…

For  a few weeks now I’ve been working on the development phase of a graphic novel based on true historical events (deportation of Romanian families to Siberia after Soviet occupation in WWII) all narrated from the perspective of an old woman who was a little girl back then. I decided to choose this subject after I got completely BLOWN AWAY by her extraordinary story.  As much as young people dislike history and as fed up as some other people are with soviet stereotypes overly used by Hollywood, this story is such a breath of fresh air because it is personal, it is unbiased and it speaks so clearly of the power of the human spirit when  guided by true faith… and of the unequaled moral beauty and strength of our grandfathers’ generation. This is definitely a story that has to, needs to be known …

I’m not sure when my novel is going to be finished… but IT WILL BE so help me God! >.<

A few fun sketches

Hi everyone! thank you so much for all your attention on my last post. I see WIP steps are quite popular so I’ll be definitely uploading some more in the future 🙂

These are just a few fun and random sketches I decided to share and hope you’ll like them. Pencil drawings and sketches give me a very liberating feeling just because I get to play with the line and because I’m not using any reference. So it’s a also a way for me to prove to myself how much knowledge and practice I’ve acquired on human anatomy and how “adventurous” I can go on poses without needing references. Some of these are very cartoony though but the principle still applies.

Thanks for watching! ^_^

“Rainbow” and WIP steps

A fearless kid and his little lamb after the storm 🙂

This illustration started as a random sketch but then the idea seemed too cute not to develop it further. I kept the sketch as it was, put it on overlay and painted below. I liked the spontaneous line of the sketch and didn’t want to polish it.
